Tips on using your Clarisonic Mia2 - My 6mons. Experience

After a few months of kind-a religiously using my Clarisonic Mia2 Sonic Cleansing System, i am now confident enough to write a review regarding its effect on me for the past few months of use. I don't usually write a review on my first use of a certain thing, i usually test it out a few days or weeks, or like in this case, took me half a year. You can't really tell all good and bad things about it if you just wear it once right? Specially when it comes to skincare, most results show up after a period of time and not instantly like makeups.

So yeah, after using it for quite some time, i think i can give some tips on how to use it properly to maximize the benefits of the Sonic Cleansing System. Or at least the techniques that worked for me.

For a brief review what the Clarisonic Mia2, in case you already forgot, or if this is something new for you:

A Cleansing Breakthrough

Cleansing is the essential first step in a healthy skin care ritual. The patented Clarisonic Sonic Cleansing Brush uses a sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to deeply cleanse the skin far more effectively, yet more gently, than traditional superficial cleansing or simple rotating brushes. The result is noticeably smoother, more radiant skin.

So here are my tips for Clarisonic Mia or Mia2 users:
  • Wet your brush and face first - if you don't do this the brush will tug on your face, and it will definitely hurt. It should only feel like a light relaxing scrub on your face, plus the buzzing sound.
  • Brush your teeth before cleansing your face - this one is my personal preference, but i always brush my teeth first, before i wash my face, even if not with my Mia2. The reason is that when i brush my teeth the toothpaste lather goes down under my lips. It's one of the most sensitive part of my face. I'm not really sure what it's called. (Google didn't know either. If you happen to know, please let me know in the comments.) It's the part between my mouth and my chin. The part where you put piercing on. And when the lather goes there, it kind of irritate my skin-between-the-mouth-and-chin. So when you wash your face first, specially with Mia2, all the makeup gunk, dirt and natural oil (which actually protects our skin) is removed, making our skin highly penetrable by moisturizers and any other things it is exposed with. So when the lather goes there after i wash, it irritates it more and surely afterwards, redness will appear. And the skin feels over-sensitive.
  • Charge your Mia when the buttons start to blink in low battery sign - this is really one of the most important thing you should always keep in mind, if it blinks for low battery on your use, use it then make sure to plug it up after. Don't wait till it's drained-out and you can't use it anymore. Though it's really not harmful draining your battery, it's really annoying when on your nightly routine, just about when you are getting ready to bed, and cleaning yourself and relaxing. You pick up your Mia2 and suddenly it blinks and vibrates twice and refuses to work! So plug it down as soon as it reminds you that it needs to be charged (cause it needs to be plugged-in for 24hrs to be fully charged). Or suffer 2 days of no-mia2-cleansing nights. Which for me, will really make me suffer since i don't feel clean enough when i don't use it.
  • Tie you hair - this is just common sense, and yeah i think everyone does this. But if you don't, come on, tie you hair! Specially when you are using a Mia2, it will give you a better reach, most specifically on you forehead near your hairline. And so no hair will get caught up with the bristles. Which is a little hard to remove.
  • Remove all your makeup (eye, face & lips) before using - use a makeup remover or wipes, or anything that you use to remove your makeup. If you don't, the Mia2 will just buff the makeup in deeper in your pores. And that is really not good. It's meant to remove just makeup residue and not the makeup itself.
  • Spread cleanser on your whole face too - just to have an even application of the cleanser add some on your face too even if you have already put on some on your brush head. Just to make sure the cleanser gets to every part of your face and do it's job.
  • Cleanse your neck too - for me, the neck area is still part of my face. We even put foundation in it, and sometimes contour. So you should also cleanse your neck area too to remove makeup and dirt.
  • PAT your face dry - never ever rub your towel on your skin to dry it. And i mean any towel, whether it's super smooth or microfiber or whatever! Just pat, don't rub. Your face is one of the most sensitive and thin part of your skin. So it might get scratched when you rub it.
  • Change your brush head when you feel it needs to be changed - Clarisonic advices it's users to change there brush head every 3 months. Personally for me, this is just a big marketing scheme, just to keep their sales consistent. You don't have to change your brush head if it's still in good shape after 3 months! So i advice, yes you change your brush heads of course, it can't endure a lifetime. But change it when it needs to be change, not every 3 months. After all, a brush head costs $27 a piece! We might as well maximize it's use. My first brush head lasted for about 5months before i have to change it. You'll know it needs to be replaced when it suffers from discolouration and some bristles are a bit out of shape.
  • And lastly.. BE CONSISTENT - every one knows this, specially on skincare (moisturizers, serums, lotions, oils) it needs time to work, before you see the actual result. And so if you don't use it consistently as advice, results will not be seen as fast as it claims to be or might not just work at all. Same as with Mia2, Clarisonic suggests it can be used 2x a day. But i use it once a day, at night, before i go to sleep so i can be sure there are no makeup or dirt that can clog my pores and any chemicals that were in it steeps in while i sleep at night to cause blemishes and irritations. I admit, sometimes i do get lazy or just too tired to use it, but i feel filthy when i wake up in the morning, even though i hand-washed my face. It's just really different when you've felt how clean, light and fresh after a wash with Mia2 can give you. Those who uses Mias will definitely know the feeling. And washing your face will never be the same again..

My last SAY:
I honestly thought this post will be one of the shortest post i have ever written. But seems like i went over-board again. I always do when i give advices.
But on my use of Mia2, i can proudly say that my skin is in its BEST condition in my entire life.
The Clarisonic Mia2 if used correctly and consistently can be life changing or should i say: a skin changing item specially for those who suffer clogged pores, constant blemishes and other impurities.
It even helps your skin absorb your preferred skincare product more effectively, thus making it work faster.
So I will totally RECOMMEND this item, though it's not cheap (heck yeah!), it's a very good investment. Just think about it, if you buy thousands of thousands worth of makeups, why not buy something to take good care of the skin you put your expensive makeups in.

As for my fellow makeup lovers: Our face is a canvas for a masterpiece yet to be made. But how can you even start making a masterpiece when your canvas is flawed.
